Suicide bombers kill scores in Maiduguri multiple blasts

Maiduguri was thrown into pandemonium on Thursday evening, coinciding with the nation’s 55th Independence anniversary, as multiple bomb explosions disrupted the relative peace in the town. It was gathered that over four suicide bombers attacked the town at about 7.15pm. A source told our correspondent on the telephone that the attackers entered the Borno State capital at about 7pm from the Zajeri area and spread to other locations marked as targets.

Nigeria Super Eagles have moved up one place to 52nd position according to the latest FIFA Ranking which was released yesterday. The upward movement is as a result of their 2-0 friendly victory over Niger Republic and a goalless draw with Tanzania in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier. Eleven people have been killed in a crash of a US military transport aircraft at an airport in eastern Afghanistan, a US military spokesman has said. The crew of six US military service members were among the dead, along with another five passengers, civilians who were contracted employees of the US-led international force, the spokesman said.
