NCC remits N70bn into Federation Account

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), says it remitted N70 billion into the Federation Account in the last one year. “This is in addition to the N30 billion paid by MTN Nigeria as a part payment of the N330billion fine slammed on it by the commission. Mr Yakubu Musa, Special Assistant on Media to the chief executive of the commission, made this known in a statement released in Abuja on Monday. It also said the NCC won the European Award for Best Practices 2016.

Niger workers embark on Indefinite Strike

Workers in Niger State have embarked on an indefinite strike action to protest the salary cut by the state governor despite a court injunction restricting the leadership of the Labor from going on strike. All public schools, ministries, departments and agencies were under lock and key as no worker was seen in offices. Students who went to school were sent back home while workers who insisted on resuming office met their offices locked.

NNPC withholds N764.2bn from Federation Account

The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee’s (FAAC) post-mortem sub-committee has indicted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of gross failure to remit N764.2 billion into the federation account since President Muhammadu Buhari took over on May 29, 2015. According to a report released weekend, which puts the total debt being owed the federation account at N5 trillion over the last five years (January 2011 and April 2016), NNPC failed to remit N689.1 billion into the federation account from the N1.6 trillion it made from selling 157,889,648 barrel of crude oil.

NEMA Blames Boko Haram For Widespread Malnourishment In Borno

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Monday, said the Borno State government was not responsible for people being malnourished in the North East, but however blamed Boko Haram for the humanitarian crisis in the region. The NEMA Zonal Coordinator for the North East, Mohammed Kannar, while handing over relief material to the Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Manmam Durkwa, in Maiduguri, said that these people have been in the custody of the terrorists so the government is not to blame.

Baptist minister Evan Mawarire has become a household name in Zimbabwe since he started a social media campaign in April that has tapped into mounting public anger over corruption, high unemployment and economic woes. In a video recorded before his arrest on Tuesday, Mawarire urged supporters to go ahead with further 'stay at home' demonstrations. He had called for a one-day protest last week which closed businesses across the southern African nation in the biggest strike since 2005.

The EFCC had arrested Fani-Kayode and Usman for their role in the sharing of a N4bn campaign fund during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election. The former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode says he has met the conditions of the N250m bail granted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and awaits freedom from his arrest. Fani- Kayode who had been in the EFCC custody since May 8, 2016 still have to wait to see how soon he regains freedom.

Court remands 22 suspects in prison following bloody clash in Ibadan

Following the clash between members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Oyo state on Friday, the state Police Command has arraigned 22 transport workers over their alleged involvement. The clash turned bloody on the said day as commuters and members of the public ran helter-skelter for safety. The suspects were arraigned on Monday before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, the state capital.
