Fani- Kayode meets bail conditions



The EFCC had arrested Fani-Kayode and Usman for their role in the sharing of a N4bn campaign fund during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

The former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode says he has met the conditions of the N250m bail granted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and awaits freedom from his arrest.

Fani- Kayode who had been in the EFCC custody since May 8, 2016 still have to wait to see how soon he regains freedom.

The EFCC will have to verify the document before he will be released.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier this month filed a 17-count charge against Fani Kayode.

The charges relate to suspected money laundering of N4.5bn in relation to his role in the 2015 general election.

Others who have been charged are a former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman; a firm, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited; and one Jimoh Yusuf.

They were granted a bail of N250 million each on July 4.

The Judge said the accused must provide two sureties who must be owners of landed properties within the court’s jurisdiction.

The court also ordered Fani-Kayode to deposit his passport in the custody of the court pending the outcome of the case.

The media adviser to Fani-Kayode, Jude Ndukwe, Monday, notified said the former minister was “waiting for the EFCC” to facilitate his release.”

“Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has met all the conditions for his bail and the relevant documents have been duly filed and submitted at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

“We are now waiting for the EFCC to verify the documents after which he would be released. Despite the fact that he has been locked up for the last 62 days he remains confident, strong, healthy and in very high spirits.” He said

The EFCC had arrested Fani-Kayode and Usman for their role in the sharing of a N4bn campaign fund during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

The money was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The money was said to have been transferred to the account of JTDL and then distributed to some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party.
