Mystery of Flight 370 continues

Yet another conflicting storyline emerged overnight in the perplexing disappearance of  Malaysia Airlines Flight  370 nearly six days ago. After search crews failed to find any trace of debris suggested by Chinese satellite photographs,   Malaysian officials on Thursday denied a newspaper report that suggested the plane may have kept flying for four hours after its last reported contact. The officials acknowledged the search or the jetliner, which disappeared early Saturday, is becoming harder and harder. The report from The Wall Street Journal  said U.S. aviation investigators and national security officials were basing their belief that the missing plane kept flying on data automatically transmitted to the ground from the passenger jet's engines. But Malaysia's acting Transportation Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said at a news conference that the report, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter, was "inaccurate."

FG condemns S/Africa police brutality on Nigerian

Viola Onwuliri,  Foreign Affairs  Minister The   Ministry   of Foreign Affairs has described the South African police brutality on a Nigerian which was caught on camera as “a horror and particularly disturbing’’. This is contained in a statement signed and issued on Thursday by the ministry’s spokesman, Mr Ogbole Ode. It stated that the  Nigeria High Commission  in Pretoria was investigating the circumstances of the attack on Mr. Clement Emekeneh. It said that the mission sent a strong-worded note to the Department of Foreign Affairs of  South Africa  protesting the brutal attack, and demanded that perpetrators be brought to justice. The statement also confirmed that the two South African police officers involved in the merciless beating had been arrested, suspended and being prosecuted.

Midnight fire razes Lagos market

Part of the razed market ...  Traders at the popular Iponri Shopping Complex in the Surulere area of Lagos State had   gone home   after Tuesday’s sales in anticipation of another prosperous   market day . However, they had barely gone to bed when they were jolted with a shocker: The goods they left in their shops were up in flames. Seventeen shops filled with goods were consumed by the fire, which reportedly started around 11.18pm, destroying goods worth millions of naira before officials of the Lagos State  Fire Service  (LSFS) arrived to put it out. The LSFS’ Director, Mr Rasak Fadipe, who said the tragedy was caused by an  electrical surge , added that the losses could have been more but for the intervention his men. “We battled the inferno when it was still raging. Officers at the Sari-Iganmu Fire Service Station were quickly mobilised and they came with their service tanker containing 10,000 litres of water to quell the raging inferno,” he said.

Police arrest man with 18 human skulls in Ogun

The Police in Ogun this morning  arrested   a man  carrying  18  human heads, apparently harvested from burial ground . The Nation gathered that the policemen attached to the Ado Odo Division of the  Ogun State Police Command,  while on stop and search along Ado-Odo – Owode road in Ado –  Odo – Ota  Local Government area of the state, sighted the suspect, Adelani Ayomide, carrying a bag and was going on foot. Upon searching the bag when accosted by the police, it was discovered that it contains 18 human heads (skull). The Police  Public Relations Officer , Olumuyiwa Adejobi,   , said the suspect who hails from Ilaro, the Headquarters of Yewa South Local Government, would be transferred to the state  department of investigation , Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation into the crime. Woman, two kids, three brothers among victims of Lagos boat disaster

•The scene of horror: Emergency workers moving a body on the scene...yesterday No fewer than 13 persons, including two children, were yesterday confirmed dead – four others were presumed missing – following a boat mishap at a canal located between Fourth and Sixth avenues, FESTAC Town on the outskirts of Lagos. Six persons, including Samuel Ochina, Joseph Essien, Mane Temisan, Etukofot Goddery and Daniel Peters, were rescued by local divers and emergency agencies officials. They were taken to the Lagos University Teahing Hospital (LASUTH) for treatment. The canal is reportedly a haven oil vandals. The Nation reported last year the activities of the vandals whose illegal bunkering the residents have decried as a result of the gross environmental  pollution and health  hazards they are exposed to. A pan-Biafra organisation, the Biafra Zionist Federation (BZF), formerly Biafra   Zionist Movement   (BZM), led by British trained lawyer Benjamin Onwuka, has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Enugu Government House. The group said its motive was to hoist the Biafra flag and “reconfirm the independence of the Republic of Biafra.” Over 500 members of the Biafra Zionist Federation were arrested and detained by the police on November 5, 2012, at Enugu, after it re-declared the Republic of Biafra. Gunmen have shot and kidnapped one of Wazobia FM Presenters in Port Harcourt, Akas Baba. His wife Candy Akatakpo confirmed the incident saying her husband was attacked at about 2am today at his rumuekini residence in Port Harcourt in the presence of his family. Mrs. Akatakpo said Akas Baba whose real name is Anthony Akatakpo was shot on his leg and whisked away by one of his attackers in a Mistsubuishi Endeavor SUV.
