Michel Platini elected UEFA president for third time

UEFA on Tuesday elected French football legend Michel Platini unopposed for a third straight term as president of Europe’s governing body. Platini, 59, was returned by acclamation by the 54 member federations as there was no other candidate. Platini promised to run the world’s most powerful continental federation with more “democracy” and also offered more cooperation with the heads of other confederations.

Real Madrid have suspended their supporter, who has been identified as one of those who attacked Gareth Bale’s car on Sunday, following the El Clasico defeat. Luis Suarez scored the winner for Barcelona, after Cristiano Ronaldo had cancelled out Jeremy Mathieu’s opener, as Madrid fell four points behind in the title race. As the players drove out of the training camp after arriving from Nou Camp, three men insulted and hit at least one of their vehicles. Forward Jese, Carlo Ancelotti and Sergio were the other targets of the attack.

Court orders NCC, telecoms firms to pay APC N500m

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission and five others to pay the All Progressives Congress (APC) N500 million for unlawfully shutting down the party’s presidential campaign fund raising platform. The order was given by Justice Ibrahim Buba on Tuesday in response to APC’s originating summons on the shutting down of its fund raising platform by the NCC. Buba said the APC’s position was protected by the constitution with regard to pushing for its fundamental rights once violated.

Airbus A320 Carrying 142 Passengers Crashes In French Alps

The Airbus A320 operated by Lufthansa’s Germanwings budget airline crashed in southern France earlier this morning, police and aviation officials said. The plane was travelling from Barcelona, Spain, to Duesseldorf, Germany. The local La Provence newspaper said the Airbus A320 was carrying 142 passengers, two pilots and four cabin crew, citing aviation officials. The passenger plane had flight number 4U9525 and disappeared from radar at around 9.39am.

According to US magazine, The two URLs were included in a group of new generic top-level domains that are slotted to become available for public purchase on June 1st.
