Ikpeazu Insists He Remains Abia State Governor

The embattled Governor of Abia State, Mr Okezie Ikpeazu, on Friday says he remains the legitimate governor of the state. Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia, the Abia State’s capital in southwest Nigeria, the Governor called for calm and support from all residents in the state. He said that the constitution gave him the right to appeal the case and expressed surprise at what he describes at INEC’s rush to issue a certificate of return to Mr Uche Ogah.

FG Renegotiates Lagos-Calabar Rail Contract

The Federal Government of Nigeria said on Friday that it has renegotiated the contract for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Railway Project. During a contract signing ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Transport, Mr Chibuike Amaechi, revealed that the contract was reviewed for $11.117 billion from the $11.917 billion agreed with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Abba Moro trial adjourned till September

The trial of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has been adjourned to September. The adjournment was reached on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is under probe for his alleged role in a deadly recruitment scheme that occurred in 2014. The Nigeria Immigration recruitment tragedy occurred in March 2014, when 6,5 million people in all states of Nigeria stormed various recruitment centers in the country for the 4 000 vacant positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Joseph MBU Controversial Former Rivers State Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu and former Head of the Special Fraud Unit, Johnson Ogunsakin, were among the 21 Assistant Inspectors General of Police retired on Friday from the Force. The announcement of their retirement was made by the Police Service Commission. According to its spokesman, the AIGs were retired because they were senior in standing to the recently appointed Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

FRSC bars commercial motorcyclists from plying major roads in Lagos

Gunmen attack Agip employees, kill two

Unidentified gunmen operating along the waterways of Nembe, Nembe local government area of Bayelsa State, have killed two employees of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC). The Nation gathered that the employees were killed on Thursday. A boat conveying five of the workers reportedly left Obama Flow Station in Nembe for Akemplai jetty when it came under attack.

The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, sitting in Makurdi, yesterday dismissed the petition by the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the Benue South senatorial election, Daniel Onjeh challenging the victory of Senator David Mark, on the grounds that it was filed out of time. Mark-Onjeh Onjeh had challenged the victory of Senator Mark in the February 20, 2016 rerun election citing electoral malpractices and irregularities in the conduct of the poll.
