Goods Worth Billions Destroyed In Balogun Market Fire

Over 100 shops house in six buildings at Balogun Market, Lagos Island were burnt in the early hours of yesterday, destroying goods worth millions of naira. The fire incident is coming just about a month after a similar incident occurred at the market The fire was suspected to have been caused by power surge in one of the shops at about 4a.m, spreading to others before help could come. Although no life was lost, about seven private guards were said to have sustained minor injuries, while people scampered for safety. The fire was said to have been fuelled by some of the goods, such as clothes, electronics, rubber and shoes stored in the buildings, which also served as warehouses.

Tompolo Meets Ex-MEND Commanders Over Presidential Election

Ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, yesterday met with former top commanders of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), from Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states, in Asaba, reports Vanguard. “The meeting was convened by Tompolo to deliberate with his former colleagues on next month’s presidential election as it affects President Goodluck Jonathan, who is an Ijaw indigene,” the news platform quoted a dependable source as saying. “They also reviewed the support of the nonoperational MEND for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), and agreed on ways to mobilise ex-agitators in the region for the PDP presidential candidate.”

There are indications that Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo has refused to endorse, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muammadu Buhari. Also, the animosity between, Buhari and General Ibrahim Babangida, is also a cause for worry among the Buhari group. In his recent interview, Buhari hinted that he is still very unhappy with Babangida who sacked his military administration. When President Goodluck Jonathan visited Babangida, the ex military gave a tacit approval of Jonathan when he urged Nigeria to support Jonathan for the unity of Nigeria.

Stop stealing from Nigerians, Buhari tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APCPCC) has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government to stop stealing from Nigerians and allow them to enjoy the relief that has come to consumers of petroleum products globally. A statement from the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the APC presidential campaign said it was disturbing that in spite of the fall in the global price of crude oil, Nigerians still buy petroleum products at pump prices as if the global price of crude oil had remained at $100 (USD) per barrel.
