9 'terrorists' killed near Algeria-Mali border

 Algerian armed forces killed nine armed Islamists near the Malian border on Monday, the defence ministry said. The "terrorist group of nine criminals" died after clashes with the army in the Taoundert border area, 80km west of Tin Zaoutine in Tamanrasset province, the APS news agency quoted a ministry statement as saying. It said eight automatic Kalashnikov-type rifles, an RPG-7 rocket launcher technical equipment and a "large amount" of ammunition were seized. The clampdown came after "effective use of information on suspicious movements of a terrorist group," said the statement. On Thursday, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim) had claimed responsibility for an April ambush in Algeria's restive Kabylie region that killed 11 soldiers. [SAD] Another National Conference delegate, Mohammed Jumare,dies

The  National Conference  sitting in Abuja was on Monday hit by another sad news of the death of a delegate, Dr Mohammed Abubakar Jumare, from Kaduna State. Dr Jumare who came to the Conference as an Elder Statesman died in the early hours of Monday in Abuja and was buried later in the day in Zaria. The late Dr Jumare was born on August 20, 1943 in Kwarbai, Zaria City. He attended Town School Number 1 in 1949 -1952; Middle School, Soba Senior Primary School, Katsina  Teachers College  and Ahmadu Bello University  where he bagged the Doctor of Philosophy in 1989. He started out as a  primary school teacher  in 1960 at the Zaria Local Authority and later transferred to the Treasury as Clerk in 1962. He rose to the position of Emirate Supervisor of Accounts and then Head of the Local Authority between 1973 and 1975. President Goodluck  Jonathan  said yesterday that he was consulting on the possibility of extending the state of emergency  in the Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. The President, in a Presidential Media  Chat  in Abuja, added that the emergency rule was effective in containing insurgency contrary to claims in certain quarters. He said the reason behind the state of emergency was not to suspend the democratic setting, including the affected state governors and the legislatures. He added that the emergency rule was also not intended to launch a  full scale  war in the affected states because there must be rule of engagement. Jonathan said the emergency rule had helped to facilitate search for illegal weapons and  protect security agents against prosecution. The  First Lady  of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan, recently expressed her displeasure at the conduct of the Borno First Lady, Nana Shettima after the latter missed a meeting called by the former to review the current situation in the state. Mrs. Shettima is said to have stated that she was intentionally absent because she knew that she would be humiliated at the meeting. This was disclosed by the press secretary to the governor’s wife, Aisha Hassan in a statement made to journalists yesterday. Mrs. Hassan said that Mrs. Shettima had actually travelled to Abuja all the way from Maiduguri on April 28 and met the First Lady at the Villa same day. Patience Jonathan Weeps At Chibok Abduction Meeting In Abuja …Angry Over Borno First Lady’s Absence

First lady  Patience Jonathan on Monday expressed displeasure at the absence  of Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of the Borno State Governor, at a second enlarged stakeholders’ meeting on the abducted schoolgirls. Shettima was absent at the first meeting, which Jonathan convened on Friday in Abuja to seek clarification on the number of girls involved. Jonathan postponed the meeting to Sunday to enable Shettima, parents of the abducted girls, the school’s  security guard  and two of the girls that escaped, among others, attend the meeting. However, the first lady burst into tears after she took a roll call and discovered that the governor’s wife and those she invited were absent. She kept on repeating: ”There is God in everything we are doing. There is God’’. The first lady had requested Shettima to chair the committee constituted on Friday to seek clarification to the conflicting issues on the exact number of missing girls.

The leader of Boko Haram sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau, released a video today in which he claimed responsibility for abducting the Nigerian  school girls , and said he will soak all Nigerian soil with Christian blood, and Muslims opposing them, whom he described as infidels. The video lasts 56 minutes and 58 seconds, and shows Iman Shekau speaking from a script, surrounded by heavily armed fighters, backed by an armored  personnel carrier , and two other armed vehicles. Iman Shekau said, “I am the one that took your girls.  Are you the one that created the girls? I  will  sell them in the market. I have my own market of selling  human beings .
