President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, urged the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu (rtd) to call his supporters to order, following the burning of his campaign vehicles in Jos, Plateau State. Jonathan who suspected that APC supporters were behind the burning of the vehicles described the action as a sign of desperation by the opposition party. In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, Director of Media and Publicity of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, warned General Buhari and the APC not to prepare the ground for the re-enactment of the post-election violence of 2011.

APC Accuses DSS, PDP Of Plot To Postpone Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, alleged that the invasion of its Data Centre by the Department of State Services (DSS) was part of a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone next month’s general elections. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who spoke to newsmen at the APC Data Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, described the summary report released by the DSS as an embarrassment to all intelligence-gathering organisations around the world. “Please recall that in a statement we issued on December 5, 2014, we accused the DSS of resorting to the use of torture to obtain forced confessions from the workers who were arrested during the first raid on our party’s data centre,” Mohammed said.

NIMC To Start Producing National ID Cards Locally

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is set to stop the manufacture and production of the e-ID card abroad, in line with the local content policy of the Federal Government. The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company PLC and five other local firms have therefore been shortlisted for the financial bid opening for the job. According to the NIMC General Manager Finance and Administration Ibrahim Abdullahi, who spoke at the financial bid opening in Abuja, said the Commission’s decision to bring “back home the manufacture and production of the e-ID card used in the National Identity Management Systems (NIMS), besides the desire to build local content, is to develop “indigenous expertise and enhance technology transfer as well as create employment opportunities” in Nigeria.

Nigeria To Stop Importation Of Oil By 2018 – Aganga

The Minister for Trade, Industry and Investment, Olusegun Aganga has disclosed that the Federal Government plans to stop oil importation by 2018. He said the plan would save about $10 billion into the federation account. Aganga, who spoke during a facility tour of Mikano International Limited in Ikeja, Lagos, said Nigeria cannot continue to depend on importation of primary products that could be produced locally. He therefore expressed the readiness of his ministry to harness all resources and delve into sectors where the country has competitive advantage including the agro allied industry and petroleum sector. “There are many sectors we should have developed as a country but for decades we relied entirely on importing raw materials which is oil, that era has gone and that’s why the president launched the Industrial Revolution plan in 2012,” he said.

Governor Aliyu Disassociates Self From Buhari’s Poster

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State on Sunday disassociated himself from the poster circulating on social media linking him with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement, Mr. Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebije Israel, stated that the poster, which depicted Messrs Aliyu and Buhari together, were fake. He attributed it to the antics of desperate politicians, who are out to mislead the electorate and cause friction in the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. The poster trending on the social media has the picture of Mr. Aliyu, as PDP senatorial candidate together with Mr. Buhari, the APC presidential candidate.
