Buhari’s one year ‘a colossal waste’ — Fayose

  Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the increment in the pump price of petrol as one of the gifts of President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians to celebrate his one year in office, describing the president’s one year in office as “a colossal waste”. In a statement titled; “Petrol Price Increment as Buhari’s 1st Year Anniversary Gift to Nigerians” which he personally signed, the governor said the Federal Government was indirectly collecting N58.50 naira tax from suffering Nigerians on each litre of petrol they buy.”

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed the appeal that was lodged before it by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu and two other pro-Biafra agitators, David Nwawusi and Benjamin Madubugwu, had gone before the appellate court to challenge what they termed “strange procedure” adopted in their trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Nigerian Naira forwards rose to 6-month non- deliverable 2.2% to 275 against the US Dollar at 4.38pm yesterday in London, according to a data obtained from the Bloomberg terminal after the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee voted to allow “greater flexibility” with exchange rate. The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday abandoned its naira peg to the dollar in favour of a flexible currency regime, Reuters reports.

In a retraction signed by the Secretary to State Government, Julius Ihonvbere, dated May 25, 2016, the government said: “In deference to the revered age-long tradition and respect for the sensibilities of the people of the great Benin Kingdom, the Government of Edo State hereby withdraws a letter issued on 24th May 2016 entitled: “Appointment of His Royal Highness Edaiken N’Uselu, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa as the Oba of Benin”

David Obonyo said Wednesday a lone gunman shot at the Kenyan troops Tuesday and fled while the troops were on the way to Tabda. Obonyo said the troops searched the area and found rebels planning an ambush.

Switzerland to repatriate $230 million stolen from Nigeria

The Swiss Government earlier this year confirmed it had so far returned $723 million (about N142.43 billion) of stolen funds seized from the family of the late former head of state, Sani Abacha, to the Nigerian government over the last 10 years. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama says that the Swiss Government has agreed to return about $230 million stolen from Nigeria. The Minister revealed this at a news conference organized to appraise Buhari’s one year in office.
