Okorocha’s effigy destroyed in Imo

The growing anti-Rochas Okorocha sentiments in Imo State, has taken a new twist, as his effigy that was installed in his Ideato South country home was destroyed by unknown persons. The statue, which depicted Governor Rochas Okorocha on a horse back and mounted at the Ogboko Junction, along the Orlu-Urualla federal highway, as the frenzy over his gubernatorial success was at its peak. Vanguard, who rushed to the scene of the destruction, on getting wind of the news, noticed that the effigy had been brought down and damaged beyond redemption.

Bayelsa Decides: Two hard choices for the Ijaw

With only 48 hours to the governorship election in Bayelsa State, the people of the state who are mainly Ijaw are faced with a hard choice between the two major gladiators: Governor Seriake Dickson and former governor Timipre Sylva. While Dickson is flying the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former governor Sylva is contesting on the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). There are other 20 gubernatorial candidates of other parties with Moses Siasia, of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), the only strong one amongst them.

Korede Bello, popular Nigerian music act was Wednesday unveiled as the Police Youth Ambassador by the Nigeria Police. According to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, Nigerian youths deserve to play a more important and significant role in improving the country’s security framework. Unveiling the youth ambassador and anti-crime jingles, Arase added that youths were critical to the fight against crime in the country, noting that the idea was aimed at spreading security awareness and sensitisation to schools and universities in crime prevention.

APC's Choice Of Bello Splits Audu’s Supporters

The emergence of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the December 5 supplementary election in Kogi state is causing division among supporters of the late Prince Abubakar Audu. Audu, the late former candidate of the party died on Sunday, November 22, after the election was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Pistorius convicted for murder

He killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013 after shooting her four times through a locked toilet door, the BBC reports. He is currently under house arrest after spending one year of his original five-year sentence in jail.

NCC slashes MTN fine to $3.4bn

The Nigerian Communications Commission has cut a fine imposed on MTN Group by more than a third to $3.4 billion and gave the South African mobile phone operator until the end of the year to pay it, the company said on Thursday. The NCC handed Africa’s biggest mobile phone company the penalty in October after MTN failed to cut off users with unregistered SIM cards from its network, Reuters reported.
