A blast suspected to be from an explosive device has occurred at the School of Hygiene in Kano, the Kano state capital in northern Nigeria. The ‎spokesperson of the Kano Police, Magaji Majiya, who confirmed the blast, told reporters that other officers were on their way to the scene of the blast. He said the area had been cordoned off and that the commissioner would address the media at the scene. The number of casualties in the Monday attack is not yet known. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but a terrorist group, Boko Haram had carried out similar attacks in Kano and states in Nigeria’s northeast.

A former  Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has won the Ekiti State governorship election. He  defeated the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi to win by a very wide margin. In the election which was adjudged to be free and fair and devoid of violence by the INEC and election observers, Fayose polled 203,090 votes as against Governor Kayode Fayemi who got 120, 433 votes. According to  the returning officer, Prof Isaac Asuzu, Fayose  won the highest votes in each of the 16 local governments areas  thereby defeating Governor Fayemi at his local government (Oye),  former governors Segun Oni at  Ido Osi and Niyi Adebayo at Irepodun/Ifelodun.
