F/Eagles gun for seventh title at AYC

The Nigeria team tutored by Manu Garba and assisted by Nduka Ugbade defeated the Black Satellites of Ghana in the semi-finals, while Senegal inflicted a shocking defeat on highly-rated Mali in the second semi-finals. With just one week to the presidential and National Assembly elections, unsavoury ripples of politicking are mounting, as the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), at the weekend made fresh allegations suggesting a clandestine plot by the presidency to use the country’s premier anti-corruption agency to clamp down on its leaders. Tinubu The APC, which is the major opposition party in the country, alleged on Saturday that it had uncovered plans by the Federal Government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), intended to cripple the party by arresting its leaders days to the election.

Djokovic beats Murray in Indian Wells semi-final

World number one Novak Djokovic easily recorded his sixth successive victory over Andy Murray to reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. The defending champion broke the British number one three times to win the opening set and once in the second to triumph 6-2 6-3 in 88 minutes. Murray did save three match points but the Scot hit a backhand into the net on the fourth to gift the Serb victory.

US troops evacuate Yemen as Shiite rebels call to arms

Yemen’s Shiite rebels issued a call to arms Saturday to battle supporters of the country’s embattled president, as US troops evacuated a southern air base crucial to America’s drone strike program after al-Qaida militants seized a nearby city. The turmoil comes as Yemen battles al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the target of the drone program, and faces a purported affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group that claimed responsibility for a series of suicide bombings killing at least 137 people Friday.

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), has told wife of the APC presidential candidate, Aisha Buhari, to enjoy her fifteen minutes of fame while it lasts. The PDPPCO released a statement reprimanding Aisha Buhari for advicing the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, that she would not be sent to jail if her husband, General Muhammadu Buhari wins, as unneeded.
