Vice president Sambo's camp anxious their man may be dropped as Goodluck declares

Image
PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) insiders have indicated that vice president Namadi Sambo's camp is anxious that President Goodluck Jonathan might drop him as a running mate ahead of next year's presidential elections. Earlier today, President Jonathan officially declared that he will be a candidate in February's elections, with a big rally at the Eagle Square in Abuja. However, the declaration has caused some anxiety in the vice president's camp amid fears over whether the president would retain him as his running mate or not. There have been media reports that President Jonathan has been under pressure to drop Vice President Sambo as his running mate in the elections. Those who were applying the pressure believe that although the vice president is loyal to the president, he lacks the required electoral value to deliver his northwest geo-political zone to the PDP.

US envoy lambasts Washington for failing to support Nigeria's fight against Boko Haram

Image
NIGERIA'S ambassador to the US Adebowale Adefuye has criticised Washington for failing to come to the country's assistance in its fight against Boko Haram by refusing to sell the necessary arms and equipment to the armed forces. Over the last year, Boko Haram has stepped up its insurgency across Nigeria, seizing large swathes of territory, kidnapping girls and women and detonating bombs. Nigeria's armed forces have been overwhelmed by the terrorists' activities as Boko Haram appears better equipped, motivated and organised than them. Helplessly overwhelmed, Nigeria has appealed to the international community for assistance but the US has so far failed to come to the country's aid. Washington has long used the excuse that Nigeria's armed forces commit atrocities but this has not stopped the US from selling arms to other countries like Israel, who commit worse crimes against the Palestinians.

Scientists Discover Virus That Makes People Stupid

Image
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Nebraska have discovered a virus that may increase dumbness in people. The scientists stumbled upon the previously unknown “stupidity virus” in the throat cultures of healthy subjects during a completely unrelated experiment. The 44 percent of people who tested positive for the virus performed 7 to 9 points lower on IQ tests that measured attention span and how fast and accurately people process visual information. When the Nebraska researchers injected the virus into the digestive systems of mice, same thing. The rodents blundered around mazes, appeared baffled by new toys and seemed oblivious to new entry ways in and out of their cages.
