Sambo Donates Jerseys, Balls to 95 Football Clubs in Sokoto

Vice President, Namadi Sambo Vice President, Namadi Sambo, Wednesday donated sets of jerseys for distribution to 95 football clubs across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto state. He also donated 200 balls for onward distribution to the 95 football clubs in the state. Sambo made the donation during the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally for Sokoto Central held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto.

Nigerian shuts all borders ahead of election

Nigeria has announced the closure of all land and sea borders ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections, the Interior Ministry announced Wednesday. All borders will effectively be closed from midnight March 25, to midnight Saturday, March 28, the ministry said in a statement. The release, signed by the permanent secretary, Abubakar Magaji, said the borders would be closed “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections”.

Muhammadu Buhari  The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has put paid to speculations that the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, might be barred from participating in Saturday’s presidential election. Justice Adeniyi Ademola Wednesday morning adjourned the eligibility suit seeking to stop Mr. Buhari till April 22 and 23 for hearing, meaning there is no more obstacle on the APC candidate’s path.

Cech ready to leave Chelsea this summer

Chelsea goalkeeper, Petr Cech, has admitted that he will quit the club this summer, if he does not become first choice again. The Czech has only played in 14 games this season, after manager Jose Mourinho decided to make Thibaut Courtois his first choice, following a three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid. Cech moved to Stamford Bridge from Rennes in 2004 and is looking to leave at the end of this season.

The procession carried the coffin of Lee Kuan Yew from his official residence to Parliament House, reports the BBC's Leisha Chi Thousands of people in Singapore are queuing to pay tribute to late statesman Lee Kuan Yew as he lies in state in parliament. His body was moved by gun carriage on Wednesday morning from his official residence and through the city. Mr Lee, who died in hospital on Monday aged 91, led the city-state to independence and served as its prime minister for 31 years.

Germanwings plane crash: Recovery operation resumes

Aerial footage showed the site of the crash in the Alps - courtesy BFM TV A search and recovery operation has resumed in the southern French Alps after Tuesday's crash of a Germanwings plane with 150 people on board. Officials warn the operation could last for days in a remote mountain ravine between Digne and Barcelonnette. The leaders of Germany, France and Spain are due to visit the crash site. The Airbus A320 - flight 4U 9525 - from Barcelona to Duesseldorf crashed after an eight-minute rapid descent, officials say. There were no survivors.

Obasanjo warns against rumoured plan to hand over to military

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, raised alarm of a rumour that the Jonathan administration planned to hand over to the military if he loses next Saturday’s presidential election, warning that this would undermine the integrity of Nigeria among the comity of nations. China gives ‘priority list’ of wanted officials to US

The Chinese government has provided a “priority” list to the United States of Chinese officials suspected of corruption and are believed to have fled there, a top state-run newspaper said on Wednesday. Last year, Chinese officials said more than 150 “economic fugitives”, many of them described as corrupt government officials, were in the United States. Xu Jinhui, head of the anti-graft bureau at the state prosecutor, told the official China Daily that “a priority list of alleged Chinese corrupt officials” believed to be at large in the United States has been provided to U.S. authorities.
