Missionary Miguel Pajares, 75, returned to Spain where he is being treated in isolation after contracting Ebola Getty Repatriated: Miguel Pajares A Spanish priest has become the first person carrying the deadly Ebola virus to be brought back to Europe for treatment. Missionary Miguel Pajares, 75, was rushed to hospital in Madrid after being repatriated on a military plane from Liberia in west Africa this morning. He was put in quarantine on Saturday after  testing positive for the killer disease . Mr Pajares, who had been treating patients infected with Ebola at a hospital where his Catholic humanitarian group works, was flown back to Spain with a nun who although uninfected, was also quarantined. The pair were due to be taken to an isolation ward at Madrid's Carlos III hospital after tests at an air force base in Madrid.

The nation's health minister has said that a Nigerian is being treated after showing symptoms of the disease. Fears of the continued spread of the Ebola virus have again risen as the Republic of Benin has confirmed that it is treating a patient suspected to have the disease. The country's  Health minister ,  Dorotheé Gazard  has said that a Beninois hospital is currently treating a Nigerian man who seems to have Ebola. Health officials are said to have sent the patient's blood to Senegal  for testing and verification. Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria  have confirmed cases of Ebola and if the tests turn out positive, the Republic of Benin could be the fifth. The deadly disease has killed over 900 people in West Africa since this year's outbreak began in February.

The Liberian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nurudeem Mohammed,told journalists in Abuja "The Liberian President President has personally called to apologise on the unfortunate development.She specifically said her country had declared a  state of emergency  over the Ebola epidermic in Liberia.‘She equally apologised that Sawyer ignored medical advice and escaped out of Liberia.”

Defence lawyer Barry Roux began his final arguments in the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius on Thursday. The athlete is charged with the "wilful and intentional murder" of Reeva Steenkamp after he shot his then girlfriend dead at his home on February 14, 2013. Pistorius has always maintained his innocence, insisting that he mistook Ms Steenkamp for an intruder after hearing a noise in the bathroom After telling the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that the defence team would outline several crucial points which the State had ignored in attempting to prove its case against the Paralympian, Roux began by challenging the state's assertion the athlete only cited anxiety when it suited him. "An anxious person does not walk around showing vulnerability," said Roux. He said anxiety was triggered by a situation of distress. This was a direct response to state prosecutor Gerrie Nel having argued that the defence team had failed to provide factual eviden

Fifa has demanded for explanations on why the Nigeria Football President Alhaji Aminu Maigari was removed from office.Maigari was fired by the NFF executive board on July 24, 2014.In a letter signed by deputy secretary general Markus Kattner to NFF general secretary Musa Amadu, the world football governing body demanded a more detailed explanation leading to Maigari’s removal.”We acknowledge the decision of some members of the NFF Executive Committee to start the meeting with an amendment of the agenda and to proceed with the removal of the president through a motion of impeachment,” the letter read.”However, the minutes provided very little with regard to the convocation and the agenda of the meeting, the quorum, the conditions of the amendment of the agenda and if the president was offered the right to be heard – and on which precise accusations.”In order to better ascertain the statutory ground of such an important decision, we ask you to provide us with a more detailed report.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Party (APC) today has alleged a surreptitious  and criminal transportation of millions of ballot papers into Osun with a bullion van by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Abuja on Wednesday. A statement entitled: “In Spite of Mr President’s Assurances, We Still Have Shenanigans,” and signed by the party Chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi and the Director of Publicity, Barr Kunle Oyatomi,  said the bullion van was parked at the PDP secretariat until the wee hours of today (Thursday) before it was taken into an unknown destination. This ballot papers, the party stated, was brought in preparatory to thumbprinting them at a Catholic School in Ife Odan and then surreptitiously to be added to the party’s tally in all wards and councils in Saturday’selection.

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has directed that the controversial fee hike at the Lagos State University, LASU, be reversed. Mr. Fashola stated this on Thursday at the convocation programme of the university. He said the fees would now be returned to the old charges. The reversal comes after months of protests by students and lecturers of the university. The Lagos State Government had, earlier in 2011, increased the fees from N25, 000 to N198, 000 for humanities and education, while medical students were to pay N350, 000. After the protests, the state government approved a reduction by 34 to 60 per cent. That reduction would have seen students pay between N76, 750 and N158, 250 depending on the faculty and year of study. That reduction was still opposed by the students and the lecturers. Thursday’s announcement by the governor could, however, lead to a reversal to the 2011 charges.
