United, who have been chasing Otamendi since last summer, failed with a £25million bid during the January transfer window. Louis van Gaal remains keen on the Argentine though – and now reports in Spain say United are set to pay his £35.9million release clause this summer to finally get him.

Pres. Jonathan fires Chairman of FIRS

President Jonathan has sacked the Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Alhaji Kabiru Mashi (pictured left) and replaced him with the Coordinating Director at FIRS, Mr. Samuel Ogungbesan (right). Ogungbesan's appointment takes immediate effect. Mashi had served as acting Executive Chairman of the agency since 2012.

Bolivia pull out of Nigeria friendly over Boko Haram fears

The Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), has reportedly withdrawn from next week’s international game against Nigeria, over the tension and insecurity in the country. According to newpaper La Razon, the South Americans developed cold feet about travelling down, because of ongoing security concerns. “The armed conflict in Nigeria has forced the cancellation of the game”, Carlos Chave, the FBF president said, in a press conference in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

The Senate has approved the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to raise additional $200 million Diaspora Bond from the international capital market in addition to an initial $100 million approved by the upper chamber of the national assembly in the 2012-2014 borrowing plan. In a letter dated February 4, 2015 addressed to Senate President, David Mark, the president explained that the increment being sought was to enable him to address critical infrastructure in the country, while also giving Nigeria’s diaspora citizens the opportunity to invest in the development of the country.

The head of Barclay's investment bank received £4.7m in share awards British banking giant Barclays paid £16.5m in shares to its top 11 executives, which is half the amount it paid out last year. Its executives received £32m in a share payout in 2014 - sparking criticism over excessive pay when the investment bank's profits were down. The shares were payment for role-based allowances and bonus schemes.

Abacha ruled the oil-rich West African state with an iron fist from 1993 until his death in 1998 Switzerland will return to Nigeria some $380m (£260m) allegedly looted by ex-military ruler Sani Abacha, an official has said. The transfer, to be conducted under the supervision of the World Bank, will end a 16-year case against the Abacha family. Switzerland has already returned $700m, following appeals from Nigeria.

President Goodluck Jonathan is believed to have held a clandestine meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State, on Monday night. The President reportedly paid a surprise visit to Atiku’s private residence, alongside some of his security personnel and aides. According to a report by Punch newspapers, Jonathan arrived the home of the former presidential aspirant, a few minutes to midnight when he had already headed to bed.

Netanyahu ‘wins Israeli election’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party has claimed a surprise victory in Israel’s election, Israeli media report. Earlier exit polls had suggested a dead heat with centre-left Zionist Union. With most votes counted, Likud is said to be on course to take 29 seats in the 120-seat parliament, the Knesset, with the Zionist Union on 24 seats. If confirmed, this would indicate another governing right-wing coalition led by Netanyahu.

 Nigeria will decide in three days whether Stephen Keshi will continue as the country’s coach, according to the president of the country’s football federation. Keshi has been without a contract since after the World Cup in Brazil last summer. Ebola: 4 more aid workers flown back to US for monitoring

New York - Four more American aid workers arrived back in the United States on Tuesday from West Africa to be monitored for Ebola, health officials said. The latest arrivals bring to 16 the number of aid workers who have returned in the last week from Sierra Leone. None of them have been diagnosed with Ebola, but they will be isolated and monitored during the next three weeks for signs of the disease. Officials have released few details, citing patient privacy. But all 16 are connected to — or had direct physical contact with — another American who came down with Ebola last week in Africa.
