Giant hole appears at 'the end of the world' in Siberia

Image
Scientists are being sent to Yamal to discover what caused the 80m crater A mysterious crater has appeared at the “end of the world” in Siberia, leaving a pit 80m wide and so deep it has not yet been measured. Researchers are being dispatched to investigate the hole, which has confounded scientists with its dramatic appearance. Some have speculated it could have been made by a meteorite striking earth, an underground explosion, or is a sinkhole caused by collapsing rock,  the  Siberian Times  reported. One imaginative online commenter claimed it could even be evidence “of the arrival of a UFO craft” to the planet. The area’s name, Yamal, translates as the “end of the world” and the remote peninsula reaches into the Arctic Ocean. It holds some of Russia’s largest gas reserves and the crater appeared less than 20 miles from the biggest gas field, Bovanenkovo. The dark colour of the crater’s sides was said in a Zvezda TV report to indicate

Nielsen Partners Up With Facebook to Track Television-Viewing Habits

Image
Facebook insists that it will not use viewing statistics to entice advertisers Nielsen Media Research, the television-ratings company, will be partnering with Facebook to ascertain what television viewers are watching on their tablets and other mobile devices. In the past, Nielsen solely tracked meters on home televisions, but now finds this old system has become antiquated with the increasing ubiquity of entertainment in the digital age. Beginning in the fall, Facebook will access online television databases and send the results along with the age and gender of its users to Nielsen. The partnership, which was originally announced in October 2013, is courting controversy following a controversial study in which Facebook manipulated the posts of its users to track their moods. The social-media platform hopes to make their intentions more transparent in the forthcoming partnership, after the mood study called their privacy policies into question. “We have worked with Nielsen under st

5 Secrets to Saving for the Future While Enjoying Life Now

A financial planner explains how to prepare for retirement while living the good life now. Save? Spend? Or both? In my work with younger clients, that’s one of the main conflicts I see: The desire to prepare for the future and save versus the impulse to live for the present and enjoy earnings now. People know that nobody is promised tomorrow, but they also don’t want to live out their retirement years with limited choices, or none at all. Understand your cash flow. I’m going to make a bold statement here: Nothing will affect your financial future more than your ability to understand your household cash flow. If you want more money to save for the future or to spend now, you have to understand your current spending patterns and habits to get there. Check in on your spending weekly; that takes far less time than a monthly review, and it’s easier to catch places you may have spent more than you planned. It’s easy to live lean for a week if you’ve overspent in a previous week. It’s a lot

Kanye West's missus  posed for a snap in her stunning Balmain dress last week while taking some time out of her busy schedule for a luxury boat party. But when we looked closer at a snap of her and family friend Jonathan Cheban, she appears to have lost her right arm. It just stops - and having seen her since WITH an arm there, we can only imagine something went wrong between the camera and social media. Pror to the show, we were nervous that it had been hyped too much, but as soon as the Carters hit the stage we remembered that it's impossible to overestimate the fierce twosome. The two hour, 44-track set was as much a trip down memory lane — with early 00's hits like "Crazy in Love," "Naughty Girl," and "Public Service Announcement"  — as it was a medley of the pair's latest slew of hits from BeyoncĂ©'s self-titled album and Jay Z's  Magna Carter Holy Grail . Whether performing solo or together, each oozed guesto and sex appeal. As for those  pesky cheating rumors , the concert put all of our worries to rest. This, despite Bey showing off her vengeful side with ballads like "Ring the Alarm" and "Resentment." They certainly like to keep us guessing. Naturally, we've been going throug

But, behind these deceptive looks are more than meets the ordinary eye. The hearts of both Omooba Oyewole and Lawal Kabir are fortified with cold steel. They are suspected dare-devil robbers. If they have conscience, it must be made of solid concrete. One of the suspects, Lawal Kabir whose eyelids blink momentarily like a doll in the old Kingsway Store claims to be

Atiku Angry Over Nyako’s Impeachment, Warns PDP

Image
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned against the excessive use of power by the PDP-led federal government, a tendency, he said, was not good for decent democratic practice. Atiku, who was reacting to the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, said in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja that wielding the axe of impeachment against elected public office holders to settle scores by the PDP-led federal government would needlessly build up tension in the country. The former Vice President said the reckless use of impeachment to settle scores could not have been the intention of the framers of the 1999 Constitution. He said the frequency with which elective officials were being shot down by impeachment would destroy the whole purpose of inserting the impeachment clause in the Constitution.

I will challenge my impeachment in court for the records—-Nyako

While some say he is in Abuja, some maintain he is holed up somewhere in Abuja.   This is coming on the heels of speculation that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Department of Security Services (DSS), may be out for him sequel to his infamous letter to his former colleagues which some argue contain treasonable contents, and allegations bothering on misappropriation of funds.

Jonathan Now To Meet Chibok Girls Family July 22

Image
President Goodluck Jonathan has re-invited the families of the abducted Chibok girls and the 12 escapees for July 22, 2014, after the earlier scheduled one was abruptly canceled. A letter to that effect has already been dispatched to the families. The meeting earlier scheduled today (Tuesday) was called off over what sources said was the “politicization” of the planned meeting. The former Education Minister, Mrs. Obi Ezekwesili allegedly advised the Chibok families to shun the planned Presidential visit scheduled for today, (Tuesday). The Pakistani girl Education advocate, Malala Yousafzai who was on an official visit to Nigeria had allegedly asked Ezekwesili during her meeting with the #bringbackourgirls movement not to urge the abducted Chibok families to turn down the visit.
