293 Females Rescued from Sambisa Forest Undergo Pregnancy & HIV Tests

The 293 females whom the Nigerian Army recently rescued from Sambisa Forest, are currently undergoing pregnancy and HIV tests. According to Punch , military authorities took them to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State for the tests. An intelligence officer told newsmen that seven of the girls had gunshot injuries, and were also receiving treatment at the hospital. He also revealed that 200 of the 293 females were between the ages of 13 and 18.

One soldier died, four others were injured as Boko Haram terrorists battled in vain to retain nine major camps in the dreaded Sambisa forest where more women and children were found and rescued. Troop commanders said hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents were killed in hours of gun battle. The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, who made this known to newsmen in a statement, said two major combat tanks and high calibre ammunitions used by the Boko Haram terrorists were recovered while many others were destroyed.

President Goodluck Jonathan has order the immediate release to public the full report of the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Forensic Audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) accounts in respect of the alleged missing $20 billion. The President’s order was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati. According to the statement, the availability of the report to the public would make Nigerians properly informed on the matter. The Ondo State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi. The Monday plenary session was attended by 24 out of the 26 members of the House, including the Speaker, all in support of the impeachment. Ghana and Ivory Coast want to develop their offshore oil reserves Ghana has been told by an international tribunal not to begin any new offshore drilling for oil in disputed waters with the Ivory Coast. The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea did, however, allow Ghana to continue developing current oilfields. These include the so called-Ten fields, part owned by UK firm Tullow Oil.
