Enugu NLC schedules fasting, prayers for abducted girls

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Enugu State has slated May 21 and May 22 for fasting and prayers for the release of the kidnapped Chibok school girls.

The chairman of the chapter, Chumaife Nze, said in a statement in Enugu on Monday that the two-day event was informed by the congress’ concern for the innocent school girls.

“The Enugu chapter of the NLC has joined the country and the international community in the campaign: “Bring Back Our Girls,” the statement said.

It added that the union had condemned in totality the spate of insurgency in the country, particularly in the North East of the country.

According to the union, the shedding of blood is unacceptable to it and indeed barbaric and uncalled for.

“It is a challenge we must rise up to,” it said while urging the government at all levels to do all in their powers to ensure the release of these girls.

“We urged all workers to be security conscious at all times,” the statement said.

The statement added that the union counted on the solidarity and support of every Nigerian while praying for peace in the country.
