Hundreds of Ogoni people barricade Govt House, Port Harcourt

*declare Amaechi a traitor in chief

*accuse him of deceiving Ogoni leaders and thereafter abandoning the people



Police on Thursday morning fired live shots into protesting Ogoni youths at Government House, Port Harcourt with two Ogoni youths feared dead.

The policemen guarding Government House, Port Harcourt resorted to live bullets after the protesting youths did not bulge despite series of tear-gas fired into the air.

The youths had barricaded the Government House, Port Harcourt over Amaechi's imposition of Dakuku Peterside as APC's Governorship candidate in Rivers state.

The youths took over the Government. House, set fire around the vicinity and on the gate of the Government House.

The Police opened fire on the protesters after they attempted to force their way into the seat of power.

They displayed placards which read: "Amaechi has betrayed Ogoni people", "Amaechi must pay for his treachery", "Ogoni has no room in APC"

Other placards read: "This marginalization of Ogoni must end", "Magnus cannot be abandoned in this manner".

A spokesman of the protesters, Justice Badom berated Amaechi for playing pranks with the Ogoni people.

He said the governor deceived them into APC and fighting President Jonathan only to abandon them midstream.

Another protester, Comrade Maurice Prince regretted that Senator Magnus Abe spilled his blood for the struggle, only for Amaechi to hand-pick Dakuku Peterside.

The Public Officer of Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, Legorsi Esean stated that though the group was not part of the protest, MOSOP understands the frustration of Ogoni protesters.

As at the time of filing this report the Fire Service is battling to put out the fire at the Government House, Port Harcourt main gate.
