Troops on alert after failed Borno suicide attack

A member of a vigilante group in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State at the weekend thwarted an attempt by a suicide bomber to attack the Rumirgo market, the Army reported.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed the development.

He said the suspected suicide bomber was heading to Rumirgo market when the youth accosted him.

In the process of interrogation the suspected terrorist blew himself up and died on the spot.
"An attempt to attack and wreck havoc at Rumirgo market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State was thwarted by a gallant vigilante group member," Usman said.

The Army spokesman said the vigilante sustained injuries and has been rushed to hospital for medical attention by troops.

He said the situation in the area was calm and people have continued to go about their normal business.

Usman said troops had has been placed on maximum alert to forestall further attacks.

"We want seize this opportunity to call on the public to continue to be more vigilant and security conscious,” Usman added.
