Liverpool step up goalkeeper search

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan after his FA Cup heroics at Anfield, according to the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old's contract at the Macron Stadium is up at the end of the season and Brendan Rodgers is still in the market for a goalkeeper.

Bogdan put in an impressive performance to keep Rodgers' side at bay and earn Neil Lennon's side a fourth-round replay in Bolton.

Stuttgart and Hannover are also reportedly interested in the Hungarian stopper.

'Falcao needs to play 90 minutes'

It is still unclear whether Manchester United will make the loan signing of Radamel Falcao permanent in the summer.

Super agent Jorge Mendes has been frustrated by his client's lack of opportunities since his season-long move from Monaco. Falcao started Friday's FA Cup fourth round clash with Cambridge - but failed to get on the scoresheet for the fifth time in his last six appearances.

"I would have liked it if Falcao was with Sir Alex Ferguson," Mendes told La Sexta. "He is a player who needs to play 90 minutes and I don't understand (why he isn't)."

The old ones are the best

Fiorentina have confirmed the loan signing of striker Alberto Gilardino.

The 32-year-old made the switch to Guangzhou Evergrande from Genoa last summer but now moves back to Serie A after just six months.

A statement on the club's website said: "ACF Fiorentina announces the acquisition on a temporary basis, with the option to buy, the rights to the player Alberto Gilardino from Guangzhou Evergrande Football Club until June 2015.”

Gilardino returns to the club where he spent five years netting 59 goals in 143 appearances.

Speaking to the Fiorentina website after arriving at the club, Gilardino said: "I will return here with great desire. I say thank you to the president and the club staff who wanted me here."

Nani statement

Nani has revealed Manchester United want him to stay at Old Trafford despite spending the season on loan at Sporting Lisbon, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The 28-year-old moved to Portugal as part of the deal that saw Marcos Rojo join United in the summer. But the winger, who has a deal until 2018, insists he has been assured his long-term future is in England.

Nani said: "The club know my value and I know they want me to stay.

"It was me who made the choice to leave the club and it was a good decision by me because I knew if I stayed one more season at Old Trafford, it would be very hard for me.

"I just need someone to believe in me, trust me and my qualities, and give me an opportunity to show them on the pitch.

"It's an experience I wanted a lot and needed as well because the last two seasons at Manchester United I had so many injuries and I was very upset with a lot of things that happened to me.

"I was missing my family and friends and I wanted something new. The only opportunity I had to be happy, and Manchester United to be happy as well, was this one."

Going to Costa lot (part two)

Chelsea have been linked extensively with Juan Cuadrado in recent days, but he is not the only wide man on their radar.

Reports this morning suggest that the Blues have also made enquiries into the availability of Shakhtar Donetsk man Douglas Costa – a former Manchester United target.

Whether or not they have the funds to push through a move may depend on the future of Andre Schurrle, who is rumoured to be unhappy at his lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge. He has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga, with Wolfsburg apparently leading the queue.

Transfer ban looming for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid are being investigated by FIFA over the signings of underage players.

Spanish publication AS claims to have access to confidential FIFA documents initiating an investigation into Los Blancos' transfer activity.

Strict regulations prohibit clubs from signing players under the age of 18, unless the clubs that own those players make them available for transfer.

Kimberly Morris, the Head of Integrity and Compliance at FIFA, sent a letter to the Spanish Federation on December 17 demanding information about Madrid's signings to be provided by January 14. It is understood that the club ordered their lawyers to examine the letter.

The case is believed to relate to the signing of two 12-year-olds from Venezuela in 2012. Manuel Godoy and Fernando Macias were snapped up from under the noses of rivals via an intermediary.

Madrid have a month to file any relevant paperwork to FIFA and prove they haven't broken any regulations.

To Venus and Back

Ben Amos will be allowed to leave Manchester United if he is offered a move.

The goalkeeper has fallen down the Old Trafford pecking order since Victor Valdes signed, and Amos’ contract will expire at the end of the season.

With opportunities now limited United will not stand in his way if the chance to move away arises before deadline day.

Amos, 24, has spent loan spells at Peterborough, Molde, Oldham, Hull (below) and Carlisle.

Speroni staying put

Julian Speroni is closing in on a new Crystal Palace contract.

The Argentine goalkeeper's current deal expires in the summer. But Speroni is set to trigger an automatic extension for another 12 months. He has made 22 Premier League outings this season as he bids to end his career atSelhurst Park.

Speroni said: "I still feel fit and have a good few years left in me yet. Not once have I ever wanted to play for any other club in England."

Palace are also keen to tie-down highly-rated defender Joel Ward. Ward has resumed contract talks and has been assured he is a key part of Alan Pardew's future plans.

Lords of the Ings

Tottenham are considering making a £5million bid for Burnley hitman Danny Ings before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

Chelsea and Manchester City – both keen to increase their number of homegrown players – are also monitoring Ings’ situation.

But Spurs may try to steal a march on their rivals this month because of their concerns about missing out if they become involved in an auction for Ings in the summer.

England Under-21 striker Ings’s current Burnley deal expires at the end of the season. And Ings is likely to cost one of Burnley’s Premier League rivals around just £3m training compensation if he joins then.

But he will be in line for a bumper new contract and Spurs don’t want to run the risk of being blown out of the water by either Chelsea or City.

Fiorentina hopeful of keeping Cuadrado

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle is hopeful that Chelsea target Juan Cuadrado will not leave in January.

The Colombian winger has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League leaders in the winter transfer market and has a buy-out clause set at £26.8million.

Chelsea have reportedly offered £20million to acquire Cuadrado, who is tied to the Viola until June 2019.

When asked about the English club's interest in Cuadrado, Della Valle told the club's website: "The buy-out clause is there.

"We put it high in order to keep him. I hope he will stay with us for a long time."

Friends reunited?

Crystal Palace are battling with West Brom for striker Shola Ameobi.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew wants his former Newcastle star after failing to agree a deal for Blackburn’s £5million-rated forward Rudy Gestede.

Ameobi, 33, is a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep – with the Baggies also very keen.

Palace fans have been calling for a new striker this January but did see Marouane Chamakh return from injury to score twice in Saturday's FA Cup win at Southampton.

Gabriel Paulista latest

Arsene Wenger says Gabriel Paulista's move to Arsenal is "very, very, very close".

The Villarreal defender is set to arrive at the Emirates for a fee in the region of £15m.

After Arsenal's FA Cup win over Brighton, Wenger said: "It's very very very close. It should be done I think tomorrow.

"[He is] a player who's 24 years old, good size, good pace and a good defender.

"He plays for only one year in Europe so maybe there are some things to work on but the potential is there."

Don't be coy, Swansea

Norwich manager Alex Neil has told Swansea City to put up or shut up if they want to sign full-back Martin Olsson.

The Swans have made an enquiry for the Sweden international but have yet to firm it up. Neil said: “If Swansea offered the money that we couldn’t turn down then we will deal with that. That has not been the case.

“There hasn’t been any contact from Swansea, apart from the initial approach, which was a few days ago.

"There has been nothing since then. That is the bottom line. Until such time as that changes, it is business as usual.”

West Brom closing in on McManaman

West Brom are edging closer to a £4.5million deal for Wigan winger Callum McManaman.

The Baggies made a third bid for the 23-year-old over the weekend and talks between the two clubs are continuing.

Albion have had two bids rejected by the Latics as head coach Tony Pulis looks to overhaul his squad. He has already cancelled Silvestre Varela’s loan from Porto and Sebastian Blanco is moving to San Lorenzo.

McManaman has scored five goals in 23 games for the Latics this season. He played in Wigan’s 1-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat to Huddersfield on Saturday which left them second bottom.

Pastures new for Fletcher

West Ham are confident Darren Fletcher will confirm that he has agreed to join the club on Monday on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The Manchester United midfielder, 30, is also a target for West Brom and Valencia. The deal on the table from the Hammers, however, is understood to be the most lucrative.

Fletcher, who has fought ulcerative colitis, is also believed to be excited at the prospect of helping the east London club in their battle to break into the top four.

The Scotland international has made only four starts under Louis van Gaal this season.

West Ham have agreed a mutual termination with forward Ricardo Vaz Te and plan to offload other fringe players in order to free up space on their wage bill for Fletcher.

Bony for the bench?

Swansea director John van Zweden fears £30million Wilfried Bony will rot on the Manchester City bench.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast striker is set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations this week if his country lose to Cameroon on Wednesday. But Van Zweden believes he will play second fiddle behind Sergio Aguero, who started Saturday’s FA Cup defeat against Middlesbrough.

Van Zweden said: “We will miss the goals from Wilfried Bony a lot. The most frustrating thing is that he will sit on the Manchester City bench, for Sergio Aguero remains their main striker."

Mersey beat-down?

Everton are considering a cut-price swoop for Yevhen Konoplyanka.

The Ukrainian winger nearly joined Liverpool a year ago from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Now he could finally be set for a move to the Premier League as his contract expires in the summer and his club are willing to cash in.

Konoplyanka is liked by Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who could bid if badboy Kevin Mirallas is sold.

Mirallas was hauled off at half-time for taking and missing a penalty ahead of regular spot-kick taker Leighton Baines in the goalless draw with West Brom.

Italian club Roma have already bid €2.5million (£1.87m) for Konoplyanka, who has been linked with Spurs.
