N-Delta group, Ijaw leader warn Kachikwu over Avengers

—A group, Niger Delta Patriotic Front, NDPF, yesterday, warned the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu not to burn his fingers with his ongoing negotiations for peace with stakeholders in Niger Delta region, especially with the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, saying they are a band of renegades. The group in a statement by Mr. Joel Tamarakepreye, Director of Information, asked Nigerians not to be deceived by antics of the Avengers,

as it does not have the capacity to sustain its current madness, adding that an ex-militant leader was the promoter and Kachikwu was ignorantly becoming its greatest sympathizer. Also, an Ijaw opinion leader in Delta State, Dr. Greg Afoegba, said that Kachikwu was uninformed on the character and motives of rampaging militants destroying oil assets in the Niger Delta, saying his view on the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko and the planned Niger Delta dialogue would soon land him in trouble. Meanwhile, all eyes are on President Muhammadu Buhari to see whether the Federal Government would extend the two-week ceasefire on Niger Delta expiring tomorrow and government’s conditions for an all-embracing dialogue with stakeholders, including militants. Also, the acrimony between the Niger Delta Avengers and Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, has continued with both groups accusing each other of derailing the struggle. NDPF pointed out that what the Avengers were doing was to force down on the throats of Nigerians the reality of negotiations for a political solution to the charges against an ex-militant leader. “The Niger Delta Patriotic Front, therefore, calledon all those who seek to use and divert the Niger Delta struggle to cover up the thieving and looting levelled against them, individuals and the corporate entities in which they have substantial interests to desist from doing so, as no one of us owns the Niger Delta Struggle,” it said.


‘Kachikwu should learn from Amaechi’ Afoegba, told Vanguard, “No matter the definition of the Avengers or their request or position, for me, it is ill-timed, not justifiable, criminal and totally condemnable. “We as a people from this region must begin to look at ourselves eyeball to eyeball and speak and condemn these terrorists. This fraud in all ramifications must stop to move our country and Niger Delta region forward,” he said. Reacting to Kachukwu’s recent comments and peace- building visit to the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, after joining issues with his Transport Ministry counterpart, Chibuike Amaechi on the state of the varsity project, he said: “I am not against siting educational institutions in any part of our region.” On how the divergence of views between both ministers affects the Niger Delta question, Afoegba said: “I am on the side of Amaechi, who never really called for scrapping of the varsity, but rather wants the associated corruption first tackled. Amaechi understands the fraud among the Niger Delta militants than Kachikwu.


” Kachikwu is God-sent—Ijaw group But National Association of Gbaramatu Students, NAGS, yesterday, said the Minister of State for Petroleum was God- sent to liberate the people of Niger Delta. President of the association, Seiyefa Ekpemupolo, in a statement, said: “We pass a vote of confidence in him, if they are others like him, who think positive about our region, then we would not have been in this level that we are today.” NDA attacks MEND Avengers’ spokesperson, self-styled Brigadier General Murdoch Agbinibo in a statement, Saturday, had accused some prominent Niger Deltans of using MEND, to ambush the struggle.
