AWONIYI EYES CHELSEA AS KESHI CATCHES BUZZ

Flying Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi yesterday revealed playing for Chelsea FC of England remain his biggest aspiration as a footballer.

The 18-year old FF Kalmar player who Nwankwo Kanu described as ‘Nigeria’s hottest football prospect’ at the moment has scored six goals in two friendly games for the U-20 side as they continue their preparations for the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off this month end.
“Playing for the biggest club in the world that the real deal, #Chelsea” the African Youth Championship most valuable player wrote on twitter.
Awoniyi is one of Coach Manu Garba’s leading players ahead of the Mundial in New Zealand where he is expected to combine well with the likes of Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Musa Yahaya to bring the trophy home.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi says he has also caught the Awoniyi buzz and that the player will surely get a chance to stake a claim for a shirt in the senior national team after the World Cup.
The former Malian manager reckoned that age should not be a barrier playing for the national team was quick to point out that doing well in the youth ranks does not necessarily translate to being ready for the big thing in the senior national team set-up.
The Big Boss, who himself started quite young playing for the Super Eagles, said on Brila FM that if Raheem Sterling could play for England at a tender age, Awoniyi could also break into the Nigerian senior national team.
