When Will WizKid Release Another Album?

The emergence of Ayo Balogun, popularly known as WizKid, on the Nigerian music scene was greeted by many as a “breath of fresh air”. His sound was distinct and he had some sort of innocence which won over a lot of music lovers (those of the fairer sex, especially). Then he released his debut album in 2011 which he aptly titled Superstar. Fast-forward a couple of years and WizKid has, indeed, become a superstar! Countless collaborations with both African and international artistes, endorsement deals, awards, the setting up of his own record label and many more goodies have since come his way since that very first number Holla at your boy.

But Wizkid’s fans the world over feel slighted. Of course, you are wondering why. Well, the reason is simple. They have grown tired of waiting for a sophomore album. The release of the album which, according to various reports is titled Chosen, has been postponed twice, giving the singers’ fans heartache. Recently, WizKid posted a photo of what is believed to be the unofficial track list of the album. Close sources have endlessly whispered that the said album will feature Don Jazzy, Banky W, Femi Kuti, Seyi Shay, Efya and Olamide. Perhaps, it is just about that time.

Recently, Wizkid has been in the news, having been spotted in the company of a number of famous singers; Chris Brown, Big Sean, Ty Dollar Sign, Tyrese, Akon, Justin Bieber and Rihanna (with whom he is said to have recorded a “wonderful song”). More, he also seems to be reaping from his connection with these stars. His recently released single with Akon and Banky W is proof. Imagine a WizKid, Justin Bieber and Chris brown song. Absolutely crazy. Nigeria has, indeed, come a long way musically. Our brand of music is getting better global reception (D’banj’s 2011 hit Oliver Twist is an example). 2Face Idibia, Timaya, P-Square, Olamide and Ice Prince are some of the Nigerian artistes who have released hit-numbers featuring international stars.

In conclusion, WizKid had better release this album fast, before he faces a fans’ revolt.
