Mats Hummels to Manchester United continues to dominate headlines this morning, as it has for much of the summer.
Borussia Dortmund's World Cup-winning centre back appears to be a firm favourite of Van Gaal. And it is believed that the two clubs are closer than ever to arranging a deal, with a fee in the region of £20 million likely to be enough to bring him to Manchester.
In a delicious/horrific twist depending on who you support, the deal could rest on Dortmund bringing in Liverpool's young Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori on loan.

Meanwhile, over on Merseyside, Liverpool are looking to come good on Brendan Rodgers’ promise of more transfers, with PSG’s Ezequiel Lavezzi the latest player being considered to fill a certain Luis Suarez-shaped gap in the squad.
The Argentine forward is believed to be out of favour in the French capital, but Liverpool will expect competition from AC Milan and Juventus for the 29-year-old’s signature, according to Tuttosport. An opening gambit of £18 million is being prepared by the Merseyside outfit.
The potential acquisitions don’t end there either, with not one but two Spaniards on the cards. It’s not just their attacking line-up that the Reds are looking to bolster.
Rodgers is hoping to bring in Sevilla’s left back Alberto Moreno after seeing Ryan Bertrand head to Southampton, while Atletico Madrid’s 20-year-old right back Javier Manquillo could be coming in on loan.

The Gunners already have a wealth of attacking talent at their disposal, but apparently they have their eye on another exciting addition.
Reports from Portugal yesterday indicated they had their eyes firmly trained on Porto starlet Juan Quintero .
Some suggestions had their asking price in the region of £15.8million, but the player's agent has moved to confirm it is indeed much higher.
"Porto never talked to negotiate Juan Quintero," he is quoted as saying by MaisFutebol.
"Sure there are clubs interested, there is much interest in the player, the clubs in Spain and England, but to leave would be one willing to pay the termination clause of the club (€40m)."
