Presidency Attacks Soyinka For Comparing Jonathan To ‘King Nebuchadnezzar’



The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe in a text message sent to Vanguard replied Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, comments made against President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday at a press briefing.



It would be recalled that at a press conference held in Lagos on December 2, 2014, Tuesday, which was titled ‘King Nebuchadnezzar – The Reign of Impunity’, the Nobel laureate condemned President Goodluck Jonathan for allowing what he called a ‘reign of impunity’ during his tenure.

According to reports, the Presidency on December 2 lambasted the Professor for saying there is a reign of impunity in the Jonathan-led administration.

Dr. Okupe who further condemned Soyinka’s statement called the literary giant to also attack Governor Rotimi Amaechi for his statements which were capable of overheating the polity.

“Our eminent Professor also sadly plays the ostrich as he failed to reprimand Governor Rotimi Amaechi who is the national champion of impunity and official recklessness. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan prides itself as the most liberal, keeping faith with adherence to rule of law and tolerance,” Okupe said.

Prof. Soyinka was quoted as also saying governance has degenerated to a level where any individual on account of his uniform can stop an elected representative of a people from going about his legitimate duties.
