Stateside: Gerrard is in the US to seal his move to Major League Soccer

Steven Gerrard has flown to the USA to seal his move to Major League Soccer.

The Liverpool skipper has been given leave by the club to cross the Atlantic and tie up a switch to LA Galaxy that is expected to net him just shy of £4million over 18 months.

The Reds are thought to already have enquired about a loan back arrangement for next winter when the North American season takes a break.

While Gerrard could have commanded a far greater salary staying in Europe or even moving to the Middle East, his entourage are well aware of the commercial opportunities of a switch to California.

The veteran midfielder hopes to announce a deal in the net 24-48 hours, allowing him to concentrate his efforts on the Anfield club until the end of the campaign.

Major League Soccer must ratify the deal first, however, with the league to announce that they are contributing over £500,000 of Gerrard's salary.
