Africa Cup of Nations: Tunisia appeal to Cas over 2017 ban threat

Tunisia have filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the threat of being banned from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football has given Tunisia until 31 March to apologise for accusing the body of cheating or they will be suspended.

Caf also banned Tunisia Football Association president Wadie Jary.

Tunisia made the allegations over a penalty in a 2-1 loss to Equatorial Guinea at the recent Nations Cup.

That defeat eliminated Tunisia at the quarter-final stage of the competition and furious Tunisia reacted after the game by chasing the match referee, Rajindraparsad Seechurn, who had to be protected by security officials.

Seechurn was banned for six months for his "poor performance".

Caf fined Tunisia $50,000 (£33,000) for what it termed "the aggressive attitude of some supporters in the stands, invasion of the pitch after the final whistle by players and substitutes of the Tunisian team - insulting the referee of the match and trying to physically assault him".

The continent's football governing body also wanted the 2004 champions to apologise for "insinuations of bias and lack of ethics against Caf and its officials, or to present irrefutable evidence to substantiate the accusations".

However, the Tunisian FA refused and a spokesman said the team had "suffered scandalous injustice from referees".
