FG considers 24-hour security lockdown ahead of presidential election result announcement

In order to forestall the likelihood of breakdown of law and order before and after the announcement of the result of Saturday’s presidential election, the Federal Government is considering a 24 hour total nationwide security lockdown.

According to a top security source, the Federal Government, bearing in mind the simultaneous violence that greeted the release of 2011 election result, is taking the measure to nip in the bud any violence that may likely occur.
The source, who preferred anonymity, told DAILY POST that government is not unaware of the growing tension in the country as Nigerians await the outcome of the election from the Independent National Electoral Commission, and that it not taking the various threats that have gone out lightly.

He further confided in DAILY POST that the lockdown may likely come into force shortly before the announcement of the result.
