NFF To Name Keshi’s Successor In Two Weeks

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has promised to name Stephen Keshi’s replacement in two weeks.

This was disclosed on Monday by the NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

“Within the next one week or two, we should name a new coach,” Sanusi said.

“We have a very important qualifier in September and we don’t want to waste too much time before we announce a substantive coach to take over.”
He, however, declined to reveal the identities of the coaches being considered for the Super Eagles’ job.

“I cannot tell you that now until the process is concluded, then we shall make it public, who our next coach will be.

“Nigerians should just be patient with us, we will name a coach soon,” he added.

In a statement confirming Keshi’s sack late on Saturday, NFF cited “lack of the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives as set out in the coach’s employment contract” as reason for its action.

It would be recalled that former technical adviser to the team, Jo Bonfrere, has said that only a foreign coach could improve the fortunes of the team.

Meanwhile, Keshi has urged Nigerians to forget about his sack and focus on Shaibu Amodu’s quest of qualifying Super Eagles for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nation in Gabon.

He said that attention should be on the team’s next qualifying match against Tanzania in Dar es Salaam and not him.

“You have new coaches now so you should stop talking about Keshi and start talking about them,” Keshi said.

“They shouldn’t focus on me anymore, rather they should focus on the team and the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and how to win there and the other matches.

“Let me just be, you should focus on the team and the people in charge now. Let me enjoy with my family, I just came in now; let me spend time with them. I don’t want to talk about Nigeria now,” he added.
