Boko Haram Insurgents Flee, Abandon Items – Army

The Army has said that Boko Haram terrorists are fleeing their camps, abandoning their vehicles and food items at Kotambe Kote and Jere axis, Borno State.

This was made known in a statement by the army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, through PR Nigeria.

The statement reads: “The military offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists is becoming more unbearable on them as they flee their camps abandoning vehicles, flags and foodstuffs at Kotambe Kote and Jere axis.

“In a related development, troops of 101 Battalion along with members of Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) team, today successfully detonated two bicycles laden with primed improvised explosive devices at Awaisari village near Alou Dam.”

Earlier this year, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the newly appointed service chiefs to eliminate insurgency in the Northeast.

In a renewed offensive against the terrorists, the troops have carried out numerous successful operations, including the rescue of captives, storming camps, blocking supplies, detonating bombs and arresting Boko Haram’s key figures.

Boko Haram: Army Reopens School In Gwoza

Meanwhile, the military has said that it reopened the mixed primary school in Gwoza, Borno State, for the benefit of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area on Friday.

Speaking with the Hausa Service of the BBC, the acting director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman Kukasheka said the reopening of the school was to further assist the returnees and other displaced persons with the education of their children.

He said that the reopening of the combined primary school in Gwoza was significant as the eradication of western education was part of the aims of Boko Haram in their murderous campaign of terror.

He added that the military, in conjunction with other security agencies and security stakeholders, had put adequate security measures in place to ensure the safety of the pupils and their teachers.

“Already, classes have commenced and the turnout was quite impressive,” he stated.

Shekau Speaks In New Boko Haram Audio

The Boko Haram leader (or his impostor), Abubakar Shekau, has released another message dismissing the successes of the Nigerian Army and describing its reports as lies.

The army said that the fight against the terrorists in the Northeast is gaining momentum, with most of the camps falling to the federal might.

This time, the purported sect leader reacted to the message by Colonel Sani Usman, the army spokesman, that the troops had destroyed more rebel’s enclaves and camps in Borno State.

Speaking in the new 25-minute message delivered in Hausa, Shekau rubbished recent successes recorded by the Nigerian Army, saying that they are all lies.

He said: “They (the military) lied that they have confiscated our arms, that we have been chased out of our territories, that we are in disarray.

“We are alive; I am alive; this is my voice, more audible than it was before. This is Shekau.”

The military had claimed severally that it had killed the sect leader. However, after each of such statements, the terrorist had appeared in videos released by his group, insisting he was alive and issuing threats.

Many, however, believe that the sect might be using Shekau’s impostor for the videos.

Last month, Shekau released an audio message mocking President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “This ostentatious person, a liar, I mean Buhari, who raised arms to crush us in three months. You Buhari, why didn’t you say in three years?”

“Buhari is a liar and has deceived you. The army spokesman is also lying. He and his foot soldiers always run helter-skelter whenever we come face to face with them”.

The recording contains a mention of Buhari’s recent trip to Paris on an official visit to President Francois Hollande. Shekau dismissed Buhari’s comments about “our brethren in prison”, apparently speaking about the amnesty that could purportedly be offered to the jailed militants, if Boko Haram leaders released the Chibok girls.

5 Killed In Cameroon Suicide Bombing

In what appeared to be the latest cross-border attack by the Boko Haram militant group, two young suicide bombers attacked a town in Northern Cameroon, killing at least five people, military sources told the Voice of America (VOA).

Sources told the news agency that those killed in Mora town include a police officer, two civilians and the two young female suicide bombers, who detonated their explosives in the Galdi neighbourhood near the entrance to the town.

“It happened not far from the town stadium when the police officer who was killed attempted to carry out a routine check,” a military officer, who pleaded anonymity told the agency.

He said it was possible that the death toll from the attack could rise.

Mora town lies just a few kilometres from Borno State, Boko Haram’s stronghold in Northeastern Nigeria.

FG To Establish Naval Outfit In North East

The federal government is set to establish a Naval outfit in the Northeast by the Lake Chad Basin to check the influx of illegal foreigners through that route to the country.

The chief of army staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, disclosed this on Saturday night while speaking at a reception organised by the 26th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy in honour of the chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral I. E. Ibas, in Abuja.

General Buratai stated that the Navy is also contributing in the fight against insurgency as the Navy Special Forces are also fighting alongside the Army and the Air Force.

In his remarks, the chief of air staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commended the chief of naval staff for fighting maritime crime in the last two months, adding that his contribution in the fight against insurgency had been tremendous.

Also speaking, Admiral Ibas said the service chiefs are committed to defeating insurgency once and for all in the country, adding that they will do everything possible to achieve the feat.
