Arsenal star signs new deal despite Athletic Bilbao links

Arsenal star Nacho Monreal has signed a new three-year deal with the club despite being linked with a move to Athletic Bilbao in the summer, according to the Daily Mail, as reported by the Metro.

The 29-year-old looks to have now snubbed speculation for any sort of exit after he managed to hold down a regular role under manager Arsene Wenger.

He has overtaken England international Kieran Gibbs to the left-back position after a number of impressive displays for his side.
Bilbao were said to have declared their intentions to bring the defender to Spain, but Wenger was keen to keep hold of his services for a few more seasons.

Monreal has now extended his deal for another year, adding to his previous contract which was due to expire in 2017 as he will now stay on until at least the 2018 campaign.

He started 26 Premier League games last term and has so far been named in the starting 11 for all eight league matches this season.
