Son devastated by KZN family attack

An Umlazi man is mourning the death of his parents, older sister and five other relatives who were all brutally killed on the south coast yesterday.

The family was hacked to death by suspects who ambushed their homestead near Mabheleni inland of Mtwalume.

A rondavel was also set alight in the attack.

Mlungisi Mncwabe says he received a call from relatives in the early hours of the morning informing him that his father's house was on fire.

"We hired a car and by 6am we'd arrived and we saw for ourselves what had happened. It was painful to see as it still is. I can't tell you what's keeping me going. I don't know how it will be over time," he said.

Two men aged 26 and 28 are in custody in connection with the crime.

A statement by the Hawks indicated that the suspects had allegedly accused the family of practising witchcraft.

They're due to appear in court tomorrow.
