The singer and Australian businessman are set to walk down the aisle after he popped the question on Thursday



Mariah Carey and her billionaire boyfriend James Packer are engaged following a whirlwind romance.

While the singer is yet to announce it publicly, her rep confirmed the news to Mirror Celebs on Thursday night.

According to reports, the Australian businessman, 48, got down on one knee in New York after rounding up some of the star's closest friends to witness the special moment.

The pair first met at a movie premiere in Aspen in 2014 where they struck up a friendship, but didn't start dating until June 2015.

A date for the wedding hasn't been set yet

An insider told E! News: "It's crazy how perfect they are together, they both know it and couldn't be happier.”

Though the ring is yet to make an appearance, the website reports that it comes in at around 35 carats.

Speaking about their meeting, Mariah previously said: "We were talking and laughing and people were getting mad at us and stuff like that. So, we hit it off."

This will be Mariah's third marriage following her union with Nick Cannon, the father of her twins, and music mogul Tommy Mottola.

James, Australia's fourth richest man, has also been married twice before and has three children of his own.
