NOC signs Rio 2016 MoU with TV stations

The Nigeria Olympic Committee on Tuesday in Lagos signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four television stations as part of plans to ensure Nigerians enjoy a memorable Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The TV stations are Nigeria Television Authority, Silverbird Television, African Independent Television and Hip TV.

President, NOC, Habu Gumel, said the partnership with the TV stations was a major contribution to the long-term financial stability of the Olympic movement in Nigeria.

“The selected stations will consistently do an excellent job of broadcasting live sporting and entertainment events at the Olympic Games. So, this is very good news for sports fans in Nigeria. From a commercial perspective, this model is a win-win situation which will help the NOC realise funds to support the activities of the Olympic movement in Nigeria,” Gumel stated.

NTA’s General Manager (Sports), Abdulrahman Ibn Mohammed, said the national TV station was committed to serving Nigerians the best from the Olympics, adding that the partnership was a right step in the right direction.

“Sports brings unity to Nigerians; thank God Nigeria has qualified for the football and basketball events. Nigerians enjoy quality sporting events and they have a lot to look up to at the Olympics. Hopefully, Nigerians will smile home with medals and it’s our pleasure to be part of it,” Ibn Mohammed stated.
