EFCC arrests ex-Osun State deputy governor, Omisore

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed his arrest on Sunday.

He said Omisore was arrested at his Abuja home by a team of EFCC operatives on Sunday morning.

He was then taken into EFCC custody for questioning.

Last month, the EFCC had declared him wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700, 000,000.00 from the Office of the National Security Adviser, between June and November, 2014.

According to EFCC, Omisore had been elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him “to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation”.

The commission said that the money was moved from the ONSA and paid into the accounts of firms linked to a former Defence Minister, Musiliu Obanikoro and his sons, before being transferred to the company linked to Omisore.

However, Omisore had petitioned the EFCC, demanding a payment of N500 million as damages for what he described as an offensive, malicious and false publication

Last week, the EFCC froze the five bank accounts traced to Omisore, Obanikoro and his two sons.

The accounts frozen by the anti-graft agency included Sylvan McNamara (number 0026223714 with Diamond Bank); Sawanara Limited with First Bank; Fimex Gilt Limited with the United Bank for Africa; and Metropolitan Consortium with First Bank.

The firm owned by Obanikoro’s two sons- Gbolahan and Babajide reportedly received the N4.7 billion from the ONSA in 2014, out of which N1.3 billion was transferred to Omisore.

FULANI herdsmen have agreed with the Olomu Traditional Council in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, to vacate the kingdom for an interim period of two weeks beginning from June 25, to July 9 to enable the kingdom work out modalities for re-entrance in order to avoid further clashes.

The decision was reached by the leadership of the Fulani herdsmen led Alhaji Jibrin Haruna, and other members of the Fulani Cattle Owners Delta State at the Palace of HRM, Ovie R. Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom.

The herdsmen were represented by Alhaji Haruna, Alhaji Immam Young-Okotie, Alhaji Garba, Alhaji Usman Suleiman and Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu and the Olomu Traditional Council led by HRM, Ovie R. Ogbon-Ogoni Oghoro I, and his chiefs at the well attended meeting.

The meeting at the Palace of the monarch followed criminal activities by the Fulani herdsmen who allegedly destroy farm crops, rape Olomu women as well as intimidate farm owners from doing their legitimate farming business in their own farms. They warned that the Fulani herdsmen must vacate the kingdom for failing to properly negotiate with the Olomu Traditional Council before embarking on their grazing business in his domain
