Three of the ex-agitators of the Niger Delta under the Presidential Amnesty Programme have graduated with First Class Honour degrees from universities in the United Kingdom. This was stated in a statement issued by the media and communications consultant of the Amnesty Office, Mr. Owei Lakemfa, which emphasised that three of the ex-agitators made First Class from Liverpool and Bedfordshire Universities, while 19 other students under the programme completed their academic programmes with Second Class Honours Upper Division. Lakemfa noted that a total of 144 students of the Amnesty Programme successfully completed various academic programmes in 17 UK universities. Nigeria plans to raise 245.18 billion naira ($773.44 million)worth of Treasury bills with maturities ranging between three months and a year on Aug. 3, traders said on Tuesday citing a central bank Treasury bill calendar. The central bank plans to issue 45.18 billion naira in 3-month debt, 80 billion naira of 6-month paper and 120 billion naira of 1-year bills in a Dutch auction, they said. Indicative rates for the auction are 16 percent for 3-month, 18 percent for 6-months and 18.5 percent for 1-year bills, one trader said. The auction’s results will be published the day after the sale. Yields on fixed income securities have been rising in recent months with the central bank mopping up naira liquidity to try to lure back foreign investors who sold naira assets following the plunge in the price of oil, Nigeria’s economic mainstay. The Rivers United players who were admitted after the club’s bus was involved in an accident last Thursday have been released from Hospital. Yusuf Jaiyeola, Sope Hameed and club captain, Festus Austin all sustained varying degrees of injuries after the accident that occurred in Ndele, Rivers State. They were subsequently admitted at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) where they received medical attention. The trio have now been discharged with the club’s doctor, Chukwuemeka Agi, revealing that two of the three players can now return to action.
