Eight-year-old rape survivor 'expelled' from school over odour

PORT ELIZABETH - A Port Elizabeth mother claims her child has been expelled from school because her colostomy bag was unplugged and gave off an odour, which distracted her Grade R classmates.
The eight-year-old was brutally raped two years ago.
Her injuries were so severe that she is forced to wear a bag.
"I didn't expel the child from school. I advised the parent to take the child home so that the child can be cleaned up. After that she must take the child to thesocial workers so that they can try and get her a solution to the problem," said the school principal.

The Education Department said they will intervene and ensure the child is enrolled in a school next term.
Editor's note: Correction - the video above states that judgment is expected next week; it has since come to our attention that a ruling is due on Wednesday.
