National Assembly adjourns in honour of Kuta •To hold valedictory session today



The two chambers of the National Assembly adjourned plenary, on Tuesday, as a mark of respect for Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta , PDP, Niger East, who died on June 12.

Until his death, Senator Kuta was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

The two chambers will, on Wednesday, hold special valedictory session in honour of the late senator, who had since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Senate President David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal-led Senators and House members respectively, to sign the condolence register in respect of the senator on Tuesday.

At the Senate sitting, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, read out the only order of the day entitled: “Demise of Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta.”

Ndoma-Egba said: “That the Senate do announce the demise of of Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta (1949 - 2014).” He then called for adjournment in line with the tradition of the Senate of honour of their late colleagues.



Senator Mark, who spoke to newsmen said that Kuta was Mark, who spoke to newsmen, said Kuta was a patriotic citizen, who worked tirelessly to move the country forward.

He also told the chamber the governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and the family of the late senator would attend the special session in honour of the late Senator today.

Mark said: “In Kuta, Nigeria and, indeed, the Senate had lost a very patriotic citizen, who at all times joined hands with other patriots to move the country forward.

“Specifically, the late Senator Kuta made the Senate Committee on Federal Character very vibrant and responsive to the needs of Nigerians in terms of making relevant agencies under it to bring about equitable recruitments into the federal service and allocation of resources.’’
