JAMB pegs cut-off marks for Universities at 180.

The Federal Government in consultation with the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) and other stakeholders have pegged the cut-off marks for 2014 admissions into Universities at 180, while Polytechnics and Colleges of Education(COE)were placed at 150 respectively.

The cut off points were arrived at yesterday, after the 5th Combined Policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions held at the National Universities Commission, where the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, also disclosed that the Federal Government is putting necessary structures in place to fully entrench computer literacy and Computer Based Test (CBT) at all level of Education in the country.

Wike further frowned at the inability of most tertiary institutions to utilize their admission quota, and urged them to ensure admission spaces in their schools are adequately utilized.

Still on Educational Matters… Management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has been directed to refund over N69 million to students of the institution, following the Lagos State government’s reduction and implementation of a new school fees regime for the students, which commences with the 2013/2014 academic session.

According to reports, the LASU management got this directive from the university’s governing council, who approved the new fees. Therefore, all students who had paid their fees in line with the old school fees regime before the reduction payments would all be getting a refund and would all be paid by cheques.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor John Obafunwa, also charged members of the LASU chapter, of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, to reconsider its stance and call off its one-month-old strike, so that the institution could commence normal academic activities for the session.
