But the Old Trafford giants are determined not to pay over the odds in the transfer market and have made it clear they will not meet Juve’s £34m asking price for Vidal.
They have looked at the Chile World Cup midfielder as they rebuild after last season’s woeful campaign and are impressed with his goalscoring record.
And Vidal, who is on holiday following Chile’s penalty shootout exit to hosts Brazil in the last 16, hinted he is open to a move.
He said: “I’ve heard about the rumours. I’m enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I’ll see what happens. I’m very calm, but anyone would love to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
But United have warned their interest could go cold as it is understood they believe Italian champions Juve, who need to sell either Vidal or fellow midfielder Paul Pogba to balance their books, may be using them to try to start a bidding war for Vidal.
United want to make at least two more signings after spending nearly £60million on midfielder Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw, and Argentina World Cup winger Angel Di Maria is on their radar.
They accept it may be difficult to lure Di Maria away from Real Madrid, but have been encouraged afterhe turned Paris Saint-Germain downbecause he prefers a move to the Premier League.
However, the Argentina World Cup star wants Champions League football - Arsenal are also in line to sign him - and United would have to persuade him that missing out last season was just a one-off.

Mehdi Ali Qamar had taken his wife, young son and a cousin to a graveyard in Punjab province at dawn to pray when he was shot, said Salim ud Din, a spokesperson for the Ahmadi community. "He came here just one or two days ago to work at our heart hospital, to serve humanity and for his country," Din said. "Two persons came on motorbikes. They shot 11 bullets in him." Qamar was born in Pakistan but moved abroad in 1996. He had returned to do voluntary work at a state-of-the-art heart hospital built by the Ahmadi community in the eastern town of Rabwah.
