Even the world’s sexiest couple have to work at keeping their romance alive.
And when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt found themselves apart for the first time in their 10-year relationship they found an inventive way to fan the flames of passion.
Filming separate Second World War movies at opposite ends of the planet, they embarked on an extended wartime role-play.
While giving the Daily Mirror a sneak preview of her new film, Angelina, 38, explained: “This was the first time that Brad and I worked apart and in a way it was quite romantic.
“We decided to think of wartime when people were separated for months, if not years, and we decided to pretend we were of that time and make it romantic.
“It was as if Brad was in the European theatre and I was in the Pacific theatre and we wrote hand-written letters to each other.

"It was very connecting for us and it was a nice thing to do.”
The love letters flew back and forth while Brad, 47, was in Britain playing a tank commander in the film Fury and Angelina was in Australia directing Unbroken, the tale of an airman who survived 47 days adrift in the Pacific followed by two years of torture in a Japanese POW camp.
This is not the kind of outcome that was predicted 10 years ago when the wild and wilful Angelina and the solid, respectable Brad, married at the time to Friends sweetheart Jennifer Aniston, embarked on an affair on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith.
