Bomb Scare Averted In University Of Uyo, Akwa Ibom

The Bomb Disposal unit of the Nigerian Police Force today detonated two locally made explosive devices IEDS found inside the male hostel of the University of Uyo, in Akwa Ibom state.

Reports emerging this evening indicate that the Akwa Ibom Police Command announced to the general public within the area that the explosives were homemade. The incident was confirmed today in Uyo by the Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, who speculated that the explosives were likely produced by science students of the university therefore devoid of possible terrorist involvement.

He assured all students who reside within the school campus, parents, guardians and university employees that everything is under control. Mr. Etim further stated that investigations has commenced on the matter. He said, “the incident has been properly taken care of, we urge students and employees of the institution to go about their normal businesses”.


The IEDs were discovered by the campus security squad known as Operatives of Peace on Campus Initiative, PCI and it was detonated by the Anti-Bomb Squad of the Nigeria Police on arrival at the hostel. The police team also carried out further searches around the hostel rooms to ensure the environment was clear of possible danger.
