Oscars 2015 LIVE: Winners, nominees and performances from the 87th Academy Awards

The red carpet has finally been rolled out for the biggest night in the movie calendar and we'll be bringing you all the latest updates as a new crop of stars are crowned winners

It's never easy to talk to your parents about sex - whatever age you are - and vice versa.

So it doesn't surprise us that Dakota Johnson's mum still hasn't seen her daughter's new movie, Fifty Shades of Grey.

Melanie Griffith joined her daughter on the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday night.

And when she was interviewed about her decision not to watch the blockbuster, Melanie admitted she just didn't want to see the film.

Rita goes knickerless

Rita Ora shocked at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in a VERY revealing black see-through dress.

The 24-year-old star appeared to go knickerless and giggled as she stepped onto the red carpet at the bash after performing the Oscar-nominated track Grateful at the Academy Awards, the theme song to Beyond the Lights.

Reets wore two stunning gowns for the awards before changing into this risqué Donna Karen number which showed nearly all of her bottom to the photographers.

The one-sleeved high-necked gown featured a lace train and a panel of thicker material across the front and back with see-through side panels, showing off her tattoos.

Rita was dripping in jewellery and opted for plenty of dark eyeliner as she fluttered her eyelashes and made quite an impression at the bash hosted by Graydon Carter at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

The star also shared a number of snaps of her in the outfit on Instagram, writing: "Thank you Donna Karen," and "Vanity Fair party time!"

Nearly-naked Irina

Going through a break up can be really tough.

But model Irina Shayk knows how to deal with all those negative emotions.

And that is by going out almost-naked and getting lots of much-deserved attention.

Which is exactly what she did on Sunday night when she landed on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair after party.

The stunning model appeared almost naked when she rocked up in a black sheer dress with VERY risqué panelling over her boobs and lady bits.

The brunette stunner showed off her long lean legs in a pair of black heeled shoes, and opted for nude lipstick and simple make-up to show off her natural beauty.

The star was seen posing seductively on the red carpet and blowing kissed to her fans as she made her way into the event.

Model Rosie Huntington-Whitely has also been invited to the Vanity Fair after party.

The year the Oscars got political

This was the year the Oscars got political.

There were impassioned speeches with equal rights, voting rights and immigration rights all placed firmly in front of the cameras.

The tone was set early with host Neil Patrick Harris' satirical welcome for "Hollywood's best and whitest - sorry brightest" - a dig at the absence of black actors from the main awards.

Was this the most serious oscars ever

But it was Patricia Arquette who got things rolling - bringing the house down with a speech demanding "equal rights for women".

Accepting her best supporting actress Oscar, she said: "To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else's equal rights. It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America."

Oscars highlights: Lady Gaga reminds everyone of how talented she is

We all knew Gaga was talented but this is incredible. It's so out of this world amazing that I'm quite shocked.

I mean, she's not wearing PVC, she's not got a weird artist vomiting paint all over her and she isn't actively hibernating in an egg so we're not used to this side of Gaga.

It's all about the voice. And live singing. Take note literally everyone else.

And then Julie Andrews popped out to sing her praises. It was totes emosh.
6:14 am
Oscars highlights: Meryl Streep living for Patricia Arquette's speech

It was quite the night for political speeches.

Patricia Arquette brought hers all nicely wrote down and everything so she didn't forget it, and, in the process gave us a moment none of us would ever forget.

Collecting her best supporting actress award, she said: "To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation. We have fought for everybody else's equal rights.

"It's our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America."

Leaping up out of her seat, Queen of All Acting, Meryl Streep was wildly pointing and applauding to Patricia's sermon and it was a bit amazing.

Check it out in the video above.

Oscars highlights: John Travolta's face-gripping weirdness

Be honest, you didn't think John Travolta could do anything weirder than called Idina Menzel 'Adele Dazeem' like last year, did you?

Well he somehow managed it. It was the face-touching that was heard around the world. Gripping Idina's face after the two made fun of his boo-boo last year he was apparently glued to it because he just would not let go. *insert obvious Let It Go joke here*

We shudder to think what he'll do next year. Maybe we should start a #SaveIdina hashtag?

The Imitation Game wins best adapted screenplay!

The Imitation Game has won something!

It's taken the gong for the best adapted screenplay and the writer's, Graham Moore totally gushing over Oprah.

You just won an Oscar dude!

But he got to meet Oprah so that's clearly the bigger prize here.

And now he's talking about how he tried to kill himself when he was 16, and this is all very dark and poignant.
