"She Smells Like Patchouli Oil And Weed": Giuliana Rancic Makes Disgusting Comment About Zendaya Coleman's Faux Locs

WENN

Giuliana Rancic is in hot water after yesterday’s episode of “Fashion Police.” While reviewing red carpet fashion from the Oscars, the E! personality made some offensive comments about Zendaya Coleman’s faux locs, which looked absolutely beautiful by the way.

“I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed,” said Rancic.

Coleman later took to Instagram to respond to the review. The 18-year-old actress expressed that she found Rancic’s words to be “outrageously offensive” before going on to list accomplished people of color who proudly wear locs (and don’t smell like marijuana).

“There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful,” she wrote. “Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect. To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or ‘weed’ is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive.”

“There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair,” Coleman continued. “To me, locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion’s mane.”

Giuliana responded to the public scolding on Twitter. Of course, she claimed that her comments were not fueled by race, but more so by the teen’s “bohemian chic look.” However, most folks were not buying it.
