France, Holland battle to cap Nigerian footballer

France and Holland are battling to secure the services of a Nigerian boy, at the Barcelona Academy, Boluwatife Balogun, to represent them at the international level.

And the French are reportedly are on the verge of capping the Nigerian youngster, even though the talented player has not ruled out playing for his fatherland.

The highly-rated Barcelona youth team, who can play for the three countries because his mother is a French citizen while his father is Nigerian, but was born in Holland, has been approached by France football authorities to play for their U20 side.

French youth football chief Philippe Bergeroo and Francis Smerecki approached Balogun about playing for France’s youth sides, and this has left the youngster in a confused state.

Balogun says he is considering the proposal from France’s youth team coaches since he has not been invited by Nigeria.

The Lens product had been habouring hopes of breaking into the Flying Eagles squad before this summer’s Fifa Under 20 World Cup, and he is now in a dilemma over the country to represent.

Balogun had earlier been reported to have opted to play for Nigeria.
