Nigeria’s incoming government searches for new policy direction

The Nigeria’s opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which forms the new government from May 29, has commenced consultation on the new policy direction for the incoming administration.
The party, which produced the next President after the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday embarked on a two-day policy dialogue in Abuja to unveil the roadmap.

Jonathan, who spent six years in office hinged his policy direction on a seven-point Transformation Agenda, which included agriculture, security, employment, power and infrastructure.
The campaign slogan of the APC has a four-point agenda of security, power, employment and infrastructure.

A statement issued by Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Youth and Sports, who is the Deputy Head of Policy Research and Strategy Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, said that President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari would declare the dialogue open.

He said the dialogue was billed for May 20 and May 21 with the theme: “Implementing Change: From Vision to Reality, organised by the Policy, Research and Strategy Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

He added that the dialogue would be chaired by Vice-President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, while former British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, would be the Keynote Speaker.

“The dialogue will feature a roadmap for the actualisation of the policies of the incoming administration which will be made by experts drawn from different fields and members of the public,” he said.

Abdullahi identified the core areas of focus to include the economy, governance, job creation and insecurity in line with the APC manifestoes for change.
