Only Structural Changes Will Bring Corruption-Free Nigeria, Says Ohaneze Chieftain

A chairman of Ohaneze Nd'Igbo in Anambra state, and chairman of Presidents of Ohaneze in the seven Eastern states, Chief, Dr. Chris Oseloka Eluemuno has said that the President-Elect, General Muhammudu Buhari can only succeed in his campaign against corruption if he can change the structure of Nigeria.

Eluemuno who spoke in an interview with Daily Independent in Awka yesterday said he cannot imagine that Buhari will import people from the moon to fight corruption in Nigeria.

He said: "It will be an uphill task for Buhari to run a corrupt-free administration with the characters around him, who will advise him when he comes into office.

"We have been in the system for long and we need to be watched, the structure of the country needs to be changed.

"But certainly, his coming is divine but without structural change he cannot fight and fee Nigeria from corruption," Eluemuno said.

Secondly, Eluemuno said Buhari must embrace the report of the National Conference where Nigerians spoke about how the country will be run successfully.

He warned that not using the Confab report will not arguer well for the country.

According to him, "If Buhari turns his back on the Confab report, he will be playing with the unity of this country".

Eluemuno also said Igbo people do not need to develop goose pimples about getting their share in President Muhammadu Buhari government because certain positions are constitutional.

According to him, it has been a norm in Nigeria that if the North produces the President and the South West produces the Vice President, it follows that Igbo will produce the third highest in portfolio, and in this case, Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF).

Also, he continues, when ministers are appointed, South East must get their own ministerial appointees.

Eluemuno condemned a group which called itself a branch of Ohaneze Ndigbo who went on a visit to Buhari where they made certain unsavoury statements.

According to him, what Ohaneze wants is for the incoming President to implement the confab report and give the South East an extra state for equity and justice.
